Elizabeth Shoup, 96, Westport Resident

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Elizabeth “Betty” Shoup,  of Westport, wife of the late Dr. Homer Shoup, passed away peacefully on Monday Feb. 16 with her family at her side in Norwalk Hospital. She was 96.

Betty received the Westport YMCA's Volunteer of the Year Award. Her dedication to the YMCA spanned more than 50 years, teaching the importance of swimming to young children and working with PALS at the preschool, wiping up tears and creating a smile. A longtime member of Country Club of Fairfield, Betty enjoyed the many summertime activities there with her husband and children.

Betty is survived by her children, John “Skip” Shoup of Westport and Elizabeth “Cindy” Doucette and her husband Steve of Hampstead, N.H.; her cherished granddaughter Emmy Doucette; one brother John Wyckoff and his wife Diane of Norwalk; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to her husband Homer, Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Spicer, who died while serving in the U.S. Army Air Force; one son, Jeffrey Shoup; her parents Helen Buck Wyckoff- Kempton and Herbert Ashton Wyckoff; and her sister, Sunny McNeil.

Friends are invited to join her family in celebrating Shoup's life at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20 in Trinity Episcopal Church, 651 Pequot Ave. in Southport with Rev. Margaret Hodgkins officiating.

Her interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
