WESTPORT, Conn. Dr. Joseph Reginald Corcoran of Westport died Oct. 15 at Stamford Hospital. He was 89.
Corcoran was born March 21, 1923, in Philadelphia to Patrick and Mary Divine Corcoran. Prior to moving to Westport in 2002, Corcoran lived in Morristown, N.J. for 44 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
Corcoran received a bachelor's degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., in 1951. He received a doctorate degree in philosophy of education from Rutgers University. He was a former member of Y's Men of Westport, Friends of Sherwood Island and Habitat for Humanity.
He is survived by a son, Joseph G. (Maureen) Corcoran, of Weston; two daughters, Christine Corcoran Wiswell, of Hillsdale, N.Y., and Deirdre Corcoran (Ray) Foote, of Old Greenwich; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Corcoran was predeceased his wife, Irene Sabo Corcoran; a daughter, Mary Charlene Corcoran; and five brothers, Michael Corcoran, the Rev. Charles Corcoran, Patrick Corcoran, Martin Corcoran and Vincent Corcoran.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Church in Westport. Burial will be private. Harding Funeral Home in Westport is handling the arrangements.
