BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Dorothy Ann Bernstein of Bridgeport, formerly of Easton, died recently. She was 82.
Bernstein was the daughter of Harry and Minnie Snyderman of Philadelphia. She attended Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art (now the University of the Arts) on a full talent scholarship, receiving a degree in textile design. She went on to become fabric designer for such companies as F. Schumacher and Co. in New York City.
She also pursued the fine arts, exhibiting her drawings, painting and sculptures at such venues as the Westport Arts Center and the Easton Public Library. With her husband, she created Aspetuck Handcrafters. She worked in Westport for several years, first at Peggy Kahns and later at The Cats Meow. She was a resident of Easton for 43 years.
Bernstein is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters, Corinne Gilarsky, Leslie Bernstein and Robin Bernstein; sister, Joyce Joseph; sister-in-law, Beatrice Bernstein; son-in-law, Bruce Gilarsky; daughter-in-law, Grace Cooper; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held graveside at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Rodeph Sholom Memorial Park, 183 Kings Highway E., Fairfield. Shiva will be observed Friday, Aug. 8, following the burial at the Bernstein residence in Bridgeport through 8 p.m.
