WESTPORT, Conn. – Christine Owen Allen, 95, of Westport died Friday, May 15, at Wilton Meadows.
She was the wife of Malcolm C. Allen Sr. and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hugh Owen of Taunton, Mass.
Allen had been a resident of Westport since 1948, when her husband was transferred from Boston to the Manhattan office of the former American Can Co., where he worked after graduation from MIT for 33 years.
She was a member and deacon of the Saugatuck Congregational Church, which she also served as head of the altar flower committee for several years and sat on numerous committees and boards. She volunteered in Westport school libraries and served in several PTA groups.
After her husband’s death in 1973, she worked at the Mianus Gorge Conservancy in Bedford, N.Y.
She was a member of the Westport Garden Club and for many years was an avid gardener. Her hobbies included bird watching, sewing and watching old movies.
She is survived by a son, Malcolm C. Allen Jr. of Westport; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her five brothers.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 11, at 1 p.m. at Saugatuck Congregational Church. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk CT or to the Saugatuck Congregational Church in Westport.
