Budd S. Schwartz, 87, Of Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Budd S. Schwartz, 87, of Westport, died Sunday, March 8, in Fairfield following a brief illness.

He was born Oct. 7, 1927, in New York City. He graduated from Horace Mann and received his bachelor’s degree from Brown University. He earned his MBA from Columbia University. He was, for many years, a certified public accountant. For over 20 years, he was an executive at Citizens Utilities in Stamford. After retiring in 1991, he spent 17 years volunteering his accounting expertise at the Lifetime Learners Institute of Norwalk Community College. He also tutored students at the college.

Schwartz was an avid tennis player. He also had a passion for reading, particularly The New York Times, and for discussing current events. He maintained his love of learning, having taken many classes at Norwalk Community College.

He was predeceased by his parents, Irving and Beatrice Schwartz, as well as by his brother, Hilton.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Elizabeth Lewin of Westport; his daughters, Lisa of Silver Spring, Md.; and Patty of Havertown, Pa.; his son, Jonah of New York City; and a granddaughter of Silver Spring, Md.

A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held Sunday, April 19, in Westport. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County, P.O.
