Before moving to Shelton in 2012, Wotton remained in the same home she was born in at 79 King Highway North.
A 1943 graduate of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., she was instrumental in starting Westport's Planning and Zoning Commission.
During World War II, she worked as a draftsman for a naval architecture firm in New York City. Shortly after the war ended, she divorced her first husband and married Roswell Ham Jr. and had two daughters.
She served on Westport’s Representative Town Meeting (RTM) from 1965 to 1969. It was while on the RTM in 1966 that at a meeting at her home she formed a steering committee to establish a land trust for Westport and Weston. The group that would later grow into the ALT which to date has set aside more than 1,000 acres of open space in Westport, Weston, Fairfield and Easton, including the 730-acre Trout Brook Valley.
A former president of the Westport League of Women Voters, Wotton’s research and urging is also credited with the establishment of the town’s Conservation Commission. A proponent of historic preservation, too, she served on the Historic District Commission. In 2007, Wotton helped cut the ribbon at the official dedication of the Emily McLaury House at 99 Myrtle Ave.
Wotton is survived by daughters, Jacqueline Wotton of France and Helen Clement of Oregon; three grandchildren.
