Andre Suan, 75, Of Westport, Retired From Mobil

WESTPORT, Conn. – Andre C. Suan died Dec. 23 at his home in Westport. He was 75.

Suan was born June 4, 1937, in Shanghai, China, to Pao Lien Suan and Hing Wan Chao. A resident of Westport since 1971, he graduated from the University of Illinois in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. Suan received a master's degree in industrial administration from Yale University in 1966.

He joined Mobil Oil Corp. in 1966 and held management positions in Germany, Kenya, London and Fairfax, Va., before retiring in 1987. He was married to Elaine Y. Suan, who survives him.

In addition to a passion for travel, Suan was an avid golfer and benefactor of the Yale Golf Course. He was the only male member of the Connecticut Piecemakers Quilt Guild.

Suan is survived by two sons, Eric P. (Pamela) Suan, of Baltimore, and Alan L. (Beth) Suan, of Clifton, Va.; a sister, Mary Chang, of Henderson, Nev.; two brothers, Robert (Florence), of Newport Beach, Calif., Robin (Jean), of Tustin, Calif.; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Jack.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harding Funeral Home in Westport. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
