An elderly woman received minor injuries when her car crashed into a guard rail near 877 Post Road E. in Westport Saturday afternoon.
Westport police and firefighters responded to the accident around 3:18 p.m. The woman was driving north on the Sherwood Island Connector when she lost control and drove across the Post Road and into the guard rail, Assistant Fire Chief Larry Conklin reported. Her car came to rest above a small stream.
A 24-foot extension ladder was placed over the gulley and used as a platform to rescue the woman from her car. She was checked by Westport EMS but refused to be taken to the hospital.
A heavy-duty wrecker was used to lift the car from the gulley and it was towed away on a flatbed truck. The accident was cleared by 5:45 p.m.
