What's Happening This Week in Weston

WESTON, Conn. – With most schools on vacation this week in Weston, there are several family-friendly events happening in and around town. Here are some of the highlights:

Tuesday:

Noon: “Kung Fu Panda 2” hits the screen at the Weston Public Library as part of the Family Film Series" happening throughout the week. Every day there is a new film at noon until around 1:30 p.m. Parents are encouraged to stay with their children during the film and also have a lunch or snack packed for your child.

7 p.m.: The Weston High School boys basketball team will take on Bunnell High School in an away game in Stratford. Come support your home team. Tickets cost $5 for general admission or $3 for students and seniors.

Wednesday:

9 a.m.: Get a great workout during this twice weekly Body Works Group Exercise Class in Weston. The class includes cardiovascular conditioning, muscular endurance, core stabilization, flexibility and balance. Please bring water, mat and towel. The cost is $20 per class. Classes will be from 9-9:45 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Norfield Grange, 12 Goodhill Road, Weston.

Noon: “Lady and the Tramp” will play at the Weston Public Library as part of the "Family Film Series" happening throughout the week. Every day there is a new film at noon until around 1:30 p.m. Parents are encouraged to stay with their children during the film and also have a lunch or snack packed for your child.

7 p.m.: Political pundits Tucker Carlson and Eugene Robinson discuss the 2012 presidential election in a joint talk at Sacred Heart University's Edgerton Center.  Tickets are $35. For information, please visit www.edgertoncenter.org.

7:30 p.m.: As part of a new weekly adult movie night at the Weston Public Library, the film “The Descendents,” starring George Clooney, Shailene Woodly and Beau Bridges, will be shown. The film follows a land tycoon as he tries to reconnect with his two daughters after his wife is killed in a boating accident. The film has won two Golden Globes and has five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Clooney.

Thursday:

Noon: “Soul Surfer” will be shown this afternoon at the Weston Public Library as part of the "Family Film Series" happening throughout the week. Every day there is a new film at noon until around 1:30 p.m. Parents are encouraged to stay with their children during the film and also have a lunch or snack packed for your child.

8 p.m.: Second generation rock royalty Wilson Phillips takes the stage at the Ridgefield Playhouse. This trio includes Chynna Phillips, daughter of Michelle and John Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas and Carnie and Wendy Wilson whose father is famed Beach Boy Brian Wilson. Wilson Phillips shot to fame in 1990, with the release of their first album. Three of its songs became #1 hit singles, including "Hold On," "Release Me," and "You're in Love.” Later this month, their new album, "Dedicated" will be released.
