WESTPORT, Conn. Discover ways to live a greener lifestyle at EcoFest, go go-karting with the kids during Mille Ferrari Day, catch a performance of Westport Community Theatres newest musical comedy, and help support education in Africa by going for a walk this weekend in Westport. Heres a collection of events happening in and around town over the next three days.
Friday, June 8
Author Leads Writers Workshop: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. International and New York Times bestselling author of historical thrillers Steve Berry will teach his acclaimed writers workshop, Lessons from a Bestseller. The workshop will cover story structure, effective dialogue, point of view and 10 Rules of Writing. Elizabeth Berry, executive director of International Thriller Writers, will lead a 50-minute session called The Business of Writing. Tickets are $65 and $75. This is an additional $10 for a gourmet boxed lunch. Westport Historical Society, 25 Avery Place.
Friday Family Campfires: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sit by campfire and toast marshmallows to create smores with the family. Bring a blanket or folding chair to sit on. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Fee is $20 per member family and $25 for nonmember families. Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane.
"Company" Opens: 8 to 10:15 p.m. Westport Community Theatre presents Company, a Tony award-winning musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth. The show follows Robert, a 35-year-old confirmed bachelor, through a series of encounters with women. He also learns lessons from his married friends, causing him to weigh the pros and cons of married life, and the wonders and pitfalls of relationships. The show runs through July 1. EcoFest 2012: Noon to 5 p.m. Meet a variety of local eco-friendly exhibitors who can help you work your way toward a greener, healthier lifestyle at the fourth annual EcoFest, organized and run by the Staples High School Club Green. EcoFest will also feature live music, food and a number of activities and games for children and adults. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road (behind the library.) Rain date is Sunday.
Family Y Dance Performance: 2 p.m. Students with the Westport Weston Family Y Dance Center will perform a variety of group and solo pieces during the centers annual Spring Performance. The theme of this years recital is Holidays and Seasons. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children 3 and older, and may be purchased in advance at the Family Y or at the door. Sunday, June 10
Walk-a-thon for Education: 9 to 11 a.m. Help support the education of impoverished girls in Tanzania during the third annual SEGA Walk-a-thon fundraiser. All proceeds from the event go directly to support the SEGA School, a girls boarding school in Tanzania. Free. Wakeman Fields.
Mille Ferrari Day : Noon to 4 p.m. Enjoy an afternoon of Italian food, wine and cars during the third annual Mille Ferrari event. See a variety of new and vintage Ferraris, take a lap around a virtual track in a GoSimRacer race car simulator, or take the kids for a real drive around an on-site go-kart track. Rizzutos will be serving up a variety of classic Italian dishes inside, and will be grilling up sausage and pepper sandwiches and meatball sliders outside. There will also be a wine tasting and San Pellegrino water. A portion of the day's proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of CT. Rizzutos, 540 Riverside Ave.
