Monday, May 14
Sports Author at Library: 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Veteran sportswriter Jack Cavanaugh will be at the Westport Library to discuss his book, "Season of '42: Joe D., Teddy Ballgame, and Baseball's Fight to Survive a Turbulent First Year of War." The book examines this historic season, how it was shaped and affected by the war, and what it meant to America. Cavanaugh is also the author of "Giants Among Men" and "Tunney," which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in biography. The discussion will be held in the McManus Room at the library, 20 Jesup Road.
Tuesday, May 15
Titanic Book Review: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Have you read "A Night to Remember" by Walter Lord? If so, stop by the Westport Library and join the discussion. The book, drawn from survivors' accounts, remains the best Titanic story. For copies of the book, call 203-291-4821. New participants are welcome. The book group meets in the Sheffer Reading Room.
Personal Portraits: 9 a.m. to noon. Get a professional headshot you'll love without spending your savings. The Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce is hosting Personal Portrait Day at the Westport Inn, 1595 Post Road E., featuring Dan Murdoch Photography. The headshots will be offered at a reduced fee. A Soldier's View of WWII: Noon to 1 p.m. Cartoonist, illustrator, painter, and author Joseph Farris will discuss "A Soldier's Sketchbook: From the Front Lines of World War II," an illustrated memoir of his experiences as a young World War II soldier. From letters, drawings and pictures, it tells of Christmas in the trenches, long walks through the rain and mud, landscapes of fear and despair, lost friends and leaders, and changing beliefs about human nature, God and the Germans. The discussion will be held in the McManus Room.

Window Into the Jurassic World: 7 p.m. Westminster biology and geology teacher Nick McDonald gives a lecture on his research into the lives of dinosaurs at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo, 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport. A $5 donation to the zoo is suggested.

Insights From Entrepreneurs: 7:30 to 9 p.m. Hear tips from successful entrepreneurs about how to create and grow a thriving business at the Westport Library. This week, Westport resident Rick Smilow, president and principal owner of the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City, will offer his insights. Journalist and NPR reporter Alison Freeland will moderate the conversation. The discussion will be held in the McManus Room.
