What's Happening in Easton This Week

EASTON, Conn. – Several things are happening in Easton this week to fill up your free time, such a public hearing on the  proposed 2012-13 town and school budgets, children’s arts and crafts programs at the Easton Public Library and even a Citizens for Easton meeting. Here are some of the events from March 19 to 22.

Monday, March 19

• Region 9 Board of Education Financial Advisory Committee – 6:30 p.m., Joel Barlow High School, 100 Black Rock Turnpike, Redding.

• Easton Board of Finance – 7 p.m., Samuel Staples Elementary School, 515 Morehouse Road. The board will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2012-13 town budget. The town side of the budget totals $15,407,913, a 1.88 percent decrease from the current budget of $15,702,981. (The budget calendar runs from July 1 to June 30.) The Easton school budget request is $15.39 million, with a capital request of $92,000. The Region 9 education budget request is  $10.11 million. The public is strongly urged to attend.

Tuesday, March 20

• Baby/Toddler Music and Movement class – 10:30 a.m., Easton Public Library. Get the little ones moving and grooving. This exercise is open to children ages 6 to 36 months and will run for about 25 minutes. It incorporates popular children songs, finger plays and simple stories while using props such as puppets, musical instruments and rhythm sticks. Registration is not required, so drop in.

• Preschool Story Time – 2:15 p.m., Easton Public Library. Get your children excited about reading. The children’s librarian will read a few stories aloud, followed by an arts and crafts project that ties into the stories they just heard.

Wednesday, March 21

• Baby/Toddler Be Bop – 10:30 a.m., Easton Public Library.

• Arts and Craft program – 4 p.m., Easton Public Library. Children from kindergarten through the second grade can create caterpillars.

• Citizens for Easton meeting – 6 p.m., Easton Public Library. The group focuses on protecting Easton’s unique heritage.

Thursday, March 22

• Easton Republican Town Committee meeting – 6 p.m., conference room of the Easton Public Library.
