What's Happening in Easton This Week

EASTON, Conn. – A series of town spending presentations, an arts-and-craft session where kids can make monsters out of their mittens and children’s story time are just some of the events happening in Easton this week. Here are some of the highlights:

Monday, Feb. 27

7 p.m.: There is an Easton Planning and Zoning meeting tonight in the conference room of Town Hall, located at 225 Center Road.

Tuesday, Feb. 28

10:30 a.m.: Get the little ones moving at the Easton Public Library’s Baby/Toddler Be-Bop Movement Class. The exercise is open to children six to 36 months. It will run for about 25 minutes and incorporates popular children’s songs, finger plays. There will be another class on Wednesday, also at 10:30 a.m., in case you miss this one.

2:15 p.m.: Children ages 3 and up are welcome to attend Preschool Story Time at the Easton Public Library this afternoon. Children’s librarian will reads short stories and kids will create story-themed crafts.

7 p.m.: First Selectman Thomas Herrmann is expected to unveil his 2012-2013 proposed budget during a meeting with the Easton Board of Finance. The meeting will be held at the Easton Senior Center, 650 Morehouse Road. Herrmann is expected to discuss the Public Works, Tree Warden, Zoning Board of Appeals, Treasurer/Debt Service and other town side budgets.

Wednesday: Feb. 29

4 p.m.: Let your child’s creative juices flow this afternoon during the Easton Public Library’s arts and crafts program. Kids in kindergarten through second grade are invited to create a snow-cloud mobile that they can take home and enjoy.

6:45 p.m.: Kids ages 3 and up can head down the Easton Public Library to create monsters out of their mittens during the arts and crafts program.

7 p.m.: Continuing his budget proposal, Herrmann is expected to review the following 2012-2013 budget proposals: Commission on Aging, Pension and Employee Benefits, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Department, Fire Marshal and Insurance Commission and other town spending. The meeting will be held at the Easton Senior Center, located at 650 Morehouse Road.

Thursday: March 1

2:15 p.m.: Children ages 3 and up are welcome to attend Preschool Story Time at the Easton Public Library this afternoon. Children will listen as the children’s librarian reads short stories. Afterwards, kids will create story-themed crafts.

4 p.m.: The Easton Public Library is looking for teen input during the Easton Teen Advisory Group. Teens in grades 8 and up are encouraged to share their ideas about books, music and programs they would like to see at the library.

7 p.m.: At the final session of the budget series, the first selectman is expected to present his 2012-2013 proposed budgets for the library, the Police Department, Emergency Management, the Senior Center and the Town Clerk, among other town departments. This meeting is open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend. It will be held at the Easton Senior Center, located at 650 Morehouse Road.
