Westport's Sherwood Island State Park is set to receive $300,000 in state aid to fund the design of the main pavilion building, state Rep. Jonathan Steinberg, D-Westport, announced Friday.
The money, approved by the State Bond Commission, is part of a $1.1 million bonding package specifically set aside to make repairs and improvements at Connecticut's major shoreline state parks.
"Sherwood Island is one of Westport's treasures, and it is critical that we continue investing in the park," said Steinberg. "This funding will ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy Sherwood Island."
Sherwood Island, set on 234 acres, is Connecticut's first state park.
