WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport’s newest Electric Vehicle Charging Station will be unveiled in the Town Hall parking lot at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 18, by First Selectman Jim Marpe.
State Rep. Jonathan Steinberg along with members of Westport’s Green Task Force and the Electric Car Club are expected to attend.
The unveiling takes place during National Electric Drive Week, Sept. 15 to 21.
Funds for the EV charger came via a Neighbor to Neighbor Energy program grant provided by the U.S. Department of Energy. The installation of the charger was funded by a Clean Energy Community grant.
“Westport is fortunate to have community-wide support for this initiative.” Marpe said. “It is appropriate that we encourage our Town employees, and all residents with electric vehicles, to charge up at Town Hall. Much credit is due to the tireless efforts of the Green Task Force and the EV Club who will continue to work in conjunction with the Town to expand our local network of free charging stations.”
The EV station is a level 2, 240 volt station. It can be expanded to add another charger when it becomes needed.
Other EV stations in Westport are at Tri-Town Teachers Credit Union on Jesup Road and at the Saugatuck and Greens Farms Railroad Stations.
