The event was held Wednesday, April 20, at the Fairfield Museum and History Center.
"I am overwhelmed by the kindness shown to me," Pinto said. "I am grateful and blessed for the many people that have helped me over my 44 years in medicine."
Barbara Hey, who has worked for Pinto for over 25 years, praised his work. "I admire the compassion, care, and concern he shows for every one of his patients," she said. "He has taught his entire staff to treat each patient as if they were your own family, and to go above and beyond each day to help them to the best of your ability."
Pinto, who was cited for his patient satisfaction performance, has been lauded as a significant inspiration of philanthropic giving to the hospital through the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation's Honor Your Caregiver program.
“Dr. Pinto is a hospital icon,” Chief Medical Officer Michael Ivy said. “He represents what we all aspire to be – a superb clinician who has a great bedside manner with his patients, colleagues and peers.”
Pinto attended St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore, India, and served his residency at Bridgeport Hospital.
He completed a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and at Pennsylvania State University’s Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
“I’ve been practicing medicine for over 39 years,” he said. “It has been rewarding and challenging – and I would do it all over again.”
A member of Northeast Medical Group, Pinto is part of a family of physicians.
His wife, Marguerite Pinto, is a Bridgeport Hospital pathologist. Their daughter, Michelle Kittleson, is a transplant cardiologist and director of heart failure research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. In addition, Pinto’s late brother, Arthur Pinto, was chief of urology at Bridgeport Hospital.
Pinto says his practice focuses on promoting wellness and preventive care, along with moderating risk factors for heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
He said he most enjoys getting to know his patients and their families, and making a difference in their lives.
“I try to comfort the sick and frightened, and I try to be kind to the very ill and old,” he said. “I want to be part of someone’s memory forever – which is only possible with the support of my great office staff and the excellent doctors, staff and facilities at Bridgeport Hospital.”
