Westport resident Cody Ropiak, 19, was arrested Friday night on a warrant charging him with stealing gum. During the arrest, officers searched Ropiak and found, not gum, but marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Ropiak, of 436 Riverside Ave., was wanted for a May 5 incident in which he and an accomplice stole two boxes of gum from the BP gas station at 1510 Post Road E, police said. Between $40 and $60 worth of gum was stolen.
Ropiak was charged with sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond and is due in court on May 31.
