WESTPORT, Conn. Westport resident Brendan Begnal, 31, was arrested Saturday after his car struck a stone wall on Compo Road South and his blood alcohol measured more than three times the legal limit, police said. Begnal was spotted driving erratically on Greens Farms Road by an off-duty officer. The officer radioed the car's info to police headquarters and followed until it hit a stone wall near 25 Compo Road S.
When an on-duty officer arrived, he smelled alcohol inside the car and on Begnal's breath. Begnal, of 111 Compo Road S., failed field sobriety tests. The results of his breath test were .273. and .267. The legal blood-alcohol limit is .08.
Begnal was charged with operating under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, failure to renew registration and insurance below the minimums. He was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 26.

A night out in Westport Sunday ended in arrest for a Monroe couple, police said. Robert MacCloy, 50, and Ellen MacCloy, 45, were arguing loudly outside Splash Restaurant, police said. Both were issued misdemeanor summons for breach of peace and were scheduled to appear in court Monday.
