Westport Wins Slew Of 'Best In Connecticut' Awards

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport is the place to go in Connecticut to get mussels, neckties and a lot more. Connecticut Magazine released its “Best in Connecticut 2012” list Tuesday. Westport shops and restaurants took home more honors than any town with the exception of New Haven.

A total of 18 Westport businesses were picked as having the best of something in Connecticut. New Haven, where Connecticut Magazine is based, was the only town with more, earning 22 honors.

Westport was most dominant in the “Style” category. The entire town was one of three areas chosen for best destination shopping. It is also home to best consignment shop for clothing (DLC), best eclectic jewelry (Dovecote), best men’s clothing (Mitchell’s) and best toy store (Age of Reason). Overall nine winners from the 29 Style categories were in Westport.

The “Food and Drink” section was also kind to Westport. The town was cheered for its seafood, with The Whelk winning for best mussels and Mansion Clam House taking best fish and chips. Westport businesses also won for best chop salad (The Dressing Room), best side dish: escarole (Pane e Bene) and best food truck: dessert (The Cupcake Truck).

In other categories, The Spotted Horse Tavern turned up in the Nightlife section as a best bar winner, and Philip Bruce Salon broke into the Health and Beauty category as best hair salon.

Several chains with Westport outlets also won awards. Both Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods Market were named picked for food categories, winning best munchies and best salad bar, respectively.
