WESTPORT, Conn. -- Beginning Oct. 1, Westport residents and their dogs will once again be able to enjoy Compo Beach together, Westport Parks and Recreation Director Stuart McCarthy announced.
From Oct. 1 through March 31, dogs are allowed at the beach. However, they will be prohibited from the pavilion, playground and boardwalk. Also, they must be leashed in all places other than the designated off-leash area. The off-leash zone includes areas south of the pavilion and South Beach.
Regulations for the off-leash areas are posted at the beach.
Dog owners will be required to pick up after their dogs. This is required by law. Violators of any of these rules are subject to a $77 fine, McCarthy said.
