WESTPORT, Conn. With an excessive heat warning in effect for Fairfield County, the Westport Weston Family Y is opening its downtown Westport facility to everyone in the community as a cooling center. Guest fees will be waived for nonmembers until 9:30 p.m., Friday.
"As a center of community life committed to serving all, the Family Y is happy to waive our standard guest fee in order to ensure public safety," Vice President of Operation David Cohen said in a release. "Beat the heat by joining us today. And if you know of others in your neighborhood who may be at risk, please consider inviting them to come with you today to the Family Y downtown."
One of the center's swimming pools will have open swim hours starting at 12:30 p.m. There will also be open gym hours for basketball. The Family Y is located at 59 Post Road E.
Other places in town to cool off include the Center for Senior Activities, 21 Imperial Ave., and the Westport Public Library, 20 Jesup Road. The senior center is open until 4:30 p.m. and the library is open until 6 p.m.
