An 18-year-old Westport resident was under the influence of marijuana when he crashed a pickup truck into an office building at 489 Post Road E., police said.
A toxicology report indicated that a sample of Matthew Jerome's blood, taken at the time of the April 7 accident, tested positive for marijuana, Westport Police Capt. Sam Arciola said. A warrant was obtained and a search of the pickup turned up marijuana, drug paraphernalia and oxycodone pills, Arciola said.
The accident caused significant damage to the building and sent Jerome and his passenger to the hospital. No one inside the building was injured.
Jerome, of 111 Wilton Rd., turned himself in to police on Friday after learning there was a warrant for his arrest. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and operating under the influence.
He posted a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 16.
