WESTPORT, Conn. Westport resident Jonathan Loeser was arrested Monday afternoon after he assaulted a family member, police say.
During an argument with Loeser, of 7 Bonnie Brook Road, a family member attempted to call 911 but Loeser grabbed the phone and threw it to the ground. When the relative said he was going to police headquarters to report the incident, Loeser, 18, used a large paint extension pole to block the family member from leaving, police say. Loeser then began hitting the family member with the pole, causing several minor injuries.
Loeser was charged with second-degree assault and interfering with an emergency call. He was released after posting a $500 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

? Westport resident Jeffrey Peterson, of 4 Meeker Road, was arrested Sunday night following a domestic dispute with his wife, police say. During the dispute, Peterson became physical, police say. Peterson, 54, was charged with disorderly conduct and was released after posting a $500 bond. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
? The Mercury gas station at 1830 Post Road E. was the target of a smash-and-grab burglary on Aug. 29. According to the police report, the front glass door of the station was smashed in and a unknown amount of cigarettes were taken.
