WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe recently issued a proclamation declaring May as Mental Health Awareness Month in the town.
Community members are encouraged to reach out to people around them, inquire about how they are, and be active listeners, Marpe said in the proclamation.
There will be many free fairs, films, presentations, public art projects, and training events to raise awareness of mental illness during May in town.
"Recognizing the critical importance of mental health to people’s lives and to the community’s well-being," Marpe said. "The proclamation affirms Westport’s commitment to increasing understanding of mental illness, promoting access to treatment, and supporting individuals and families dealing with mental illness."
