WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Westport Police Department Local Union No. 2080 and the Police Benevolent Association will hold their annual Holiday Toy Drive early next month.

The drive provides toys for underprivileged children throughout Fairfield County and beyond. It has been extremely successful in the past, allowing for thousands of toys to be distributed to children who otherwise would have none. In addition to their regularly sponsored agencies, this year will be their third year collaborating with “Newtown Kindness," an organization whose mission is “to promote kindness as a guiding principle of humanity."

Westport Police Officers will accept new, unopened and unwrapped toys, as well as cash donations, in the parking lot of The Athletic Shoe Factory, located at 1560 Post Road East, Westport on the following Saturdays and Sundays: Dec.5, 6, 12 and 13 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

In the event of inclement weather, please call the Westport Police Department at (203) 341-6000 or check with the local news services. Should the weather not allow a trip to The Athletic Shoe Factory on any one of those days, the donations can be brought to the department as soon as conditions allow.

Collection boxes will be set up at the Westport Police Department, 50 Jesup Road and Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave., beginning Friday, Dec. 4 through Sunday, Dec. 13.

The deadline for all donations is Sunday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. to allow for the proper and timely delivery of the donations. Any questions can be directed to Sgt. Jill Ruggiero at jruggiero@westportct.gov or (203) 341-6000.
