WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport residents who live in flood-prone areas were being advised to move their cars to higher ground as flooding and high winds are expected to accompany Wednesday night’s storm.
The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning for Westport and the rest of southern Fairfield County. Moderate tidal surges of 3 to 5 feet above normal are expected during high tide from 7:30 p.m. to midnight, Westport Deputy Fire Chief Robert Kepchar said in a CodeRed emergency telephone message.
The coastal flood warning is in effect from 8 p.m. through midnight. In addition to possible flooding, a high wind warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday. Wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m., Kepchar said.
