The position has been vacant since Aug. 1,  when Controller Ken Alexander died suddenly.

Carey has been employed by the Town of Westport’s finance department since October 2009, most recently as senior accountant and prior to that as system manager/finance analyst. Before 2009, Carey took time off from her career to raise her family.

She was previously employed by GE Capital for 10 years as a senior treasury analyst and as a senior sales tax analyst.

“We are fortunate to have personnel in our Finance Department who are accomplished in their field. I am confident that Sheila’s expertise and experience will prove to be a beneficial component in maintaining the town’s financial strength,” said First Selectman Jim Marpe.

Carey lives in Fairfield with her husband, Michael, and their four children, Conor, Brendan and twins Kathleen and Patricia.
