Westport Man Faces Weapons Charge

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport resident Cody Ropiak was arrested Friday night after a three-bladed knife was found in his car, police said.

Ropiak of 436 Riverside Ave. was spotted driving on the Post Road without headlights. When the officer stopped Ropiak, 20, he smelled marijuana coming from inside the car, police said. In searching the car, the officer turned up a small amount of marijuana inside a plastic container underneath the driver's seat as well as a marijuana cigarette.

While continuing his search, the officer found a martial arts throwing knife inside a backpack with "Cody" on it. Police said the knife had three blades and when unfolded, resembled a star.

Ropiak was charged with weapons in a motor vehicle and was released on a promise to appear in court Nov. 7 by a bail commissioner. He was also given an infraction ticket for possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana.
