WESTPORT, Conn. – The Main Street improvement project has officially begun, First Selectman Jim Marpe said in a press release.
“We anticipated starting earlier, but spring was slow in arriving and delayed the project timeline,” Marpe said.
“The weather conditions have now improved to the point where we are able to begin this important upgrade to downtown Westport.”
The project will benefit all of downtown Westport, but especially focuses on Main Street, Marpe added.
Most of the work should be completed by mid-May, though the repaving work is scheduled to happen in the fall.
“I am asking Westport citizens and patrons of Main Street to be patient during this process,” Marpe said.
“This is an exciting time for all who live, work, visit and shop in downtown Westport.”
“It is the beginning of the larger efforts proposed by the Downtown Master Plan to enhance Westport’s streetscapes, parks, river views and public areas.”
