On Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., the McManus Room will host Heroes of the Animal Kingdom. The program shows how animals can keep humans healthy, adopt orphaned baby animals and plant trees. Some of the animals that participants may encounter include a monkey-tailed skink, red-foot tortoise, African bullfrog, bull snake, chinchilla, Chilean rose hair tarantula, eclectus parrot and speckled owl. The program is designed for children in elementary school and their families. Advance registration is not required.

Alex Giannini and Chris Crowe, the Westport Library resident sculptor, will lead a fossil workshop in the Seminar Room on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Children entering kindergarten or first grade will create dinosaur fossils as well as a drawing and story to accompany it. A $10 materials fee is required upon registration at westportlibrary.org.

Local artist Elaine Clayton will host a summer sketching session on Friday, Aug. 21, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The free program is open to children entering third grade and above as well as adults. Contact Deborah White at dwhite@westportlibrary.org for information on how to register.
