WESTPORT, Conn. – Just in time for Veterans Day, Nov. 11, the Westport Tree Board has announced a special “Memorial Tree Program” for Veterans Green in downtown Westport.

Trees may be purchased to honor veterans for their service and sacrifice.

Due to limited space in Veterans Green, only nine planting locations will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The size and species of each tree will be determined by the Westport tree warden.

A donation of $2,000 will include the cost and planting of the tree, five-year maintenance and a 4 inch by 8 inch commemorative plaque.

Applications are available in the Town Clerk’s Office and the Public Works Department in Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave., and in the Parks and Recreation Department at 260 Compo Road South.

Applications with full payment included must be received no later than Oct. 20, 2014.

For more information, contact Westport Tree Board Chair, Susan LeDonne or Westport Tree Warden, Bruce Lindsay at 203-341-1134 or treewarden@westportct.gov.
