Westport Invited To Get Rid Of Papers At Community Shred Day

WESTPORT, Conn. - The sixth annual community shred day will be held Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to noon, at 180 Bayberry Lane, the Westport/Weston Health District, announced First Selectman Jim Marpe.

Residents may shred up to eight paper bags (the bags recycle, too), or three boxes (12 inches by 18 inches), per household, worth of paper. Each car will be charged $5.

“This is an opportunity for Westporters to dispose of personal, confidential and sensitive papers, such as bank statements, canceled check, credit card statements, tax papers, and medical records by watching their papers shredded on-site” said Marpe.

“Document shredding is safe, secure, and confidential. This event helps insure protection against identity theft, in addition to spring cleaning file cabinets. Our environment also benefits since all material will be recycled.”

Proof of Westport residency is required. Volunteers from the Staples High School Service League of Boys will be on site to assist, where necessary.
