WESTPORT, Conn. A flashlight-carrying intruder woke the homeowners of 20 Manitou Road in Westport after entering their bedroom early Sunday, police said.
The incident happened at about 1:40 a.m. The homeowners told police the intruder ran out of the house when they woke up and fled toward the Longshore Golf Course, which borders the home's property.
A K-9 team from Monroe was called in to assist with the search. Starting from the bedroom, the K-9 led police across the backyard into the golf course but stopped in a parking area near the Longshore Marina.
The homeowners said the intruder was about 6-feet, 3-inches tall and wearing a white or light-colored polo-type shirt with dark pants. They were unable to determine the suspect's gender or race.
The homeowners also told police they saw a full-size sedan drive slowly past their home after they called police but were unable to provide more details on the car.
Area towns were alerted to the incident, which was being investigated by the Westport Police Detective Bureau.
