WESTPORT, Conn. – Easton resident Ralph M. Chetcuti was hired as Westport's new director of personnel and human resources —a position that has been vacant since March 2011, Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff announced Thursday.

Chetcuti, a former director of labor relations at The New York Times, started in his new role Thursday. Before Chetcuti was hired, Finance Director Gary Conrad served as acting personnel director.

“Ralph has broad human resources experience that made him a standout candidate for this position as we work to integrate town and school personnel and human resources operations,” Joseloff said in a statement.

Chetcuti spent 21 years at The New York Times, where he started as an employee benefits analyst. Throughout his career, he has also worked with the New York City District Council of Carpenter Benefits Funds, the New York Racing Association and Newmark Knight Frank, a commercial real estate advisory firm.

Chetcuti has a bachelor of arts degree from Dowling College in Oakdale, N.Y., and has studied human resources, employee relations and related disciplines at New York University and Cornell University.

He was selected from 45 applicants, Joseloff said in the statement. Finalists were interviewed by Joseloff and Republican and Democratic members of the Board of Finance.

Chetcuti lives in Easton with his wife, Lorraine, and sons Alexander, 21, and Matthew, 18.
