Two people had to be extricated from their car Sunday afternoon by Westport firefighters after a two-car crash near Sherwood Island Connector and Greens Farms Road.
It took firefighters 20 minutes to remove both victims from the car, Assistant Fire Chief Robert Yost said.
"A maximum of 20 minutes for extrication is part of the goal for the 'golden hour' of trauma management," Yost said in a statement. "This goal was met today only by having the tools, training and manpower to accomplish the task."
Both victims, along with a third person from the other vehicle, were taken to the hospital by Westport EMS. The accident happened shortly after 4 p.m.
