Westport Country Playhouse Celebrates Martin Luther King

WESTPORT, Conn. -- The 10th annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration, featuring keynote speaker Marilyn Ward Ford, was held recently at the Westport Country Playhouse.

Free-of-charge and open to the public, the celebration was presented by the Interfaith Council of Westport and Weston, TEAM (Together Effectively Achieving Multiculturalism) Westport and the Westport Country Playhouse. 

Ford is the Neil Coogan Public Service Professor at Quinnipiac University. Remarks were also made by the Rev. Ed Horne of United Methodist Church of Westport and Weston, chair of the Celebration’s organizing committee; Harold Bailey, chair of TEAM Westport; James S. Marpe, Westport First Selectman; and Michael Ross, Westport Country Playhouse managing director. 

As part of the afternoon program, excerpts from King’s works were read by students from the Regional Center for the Arts in Trumbull. Choral music was sung by the Staples High School Orphenians and the Serendipity Chorale.
