WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Town of Westport has contracted with Davey Resource Group to conduct a visual inventory of the 2,000 trees and stumps in Longshore Park.
The inventory, which is underway, is expected to take two weeks to complete and will be performed by specially uniformed Davey personnel. Trees will be identified by genus and species, and be ranked for health, structure, and primary maintenance needs, such as removal, selective pruning or removal of dead, dying and/or broken wood.
Trees will then be ranked from the rating system established by the International Society of Arboriculture.
Geographic information software will be used to display and manage geographically referenced inventory data. Upon conclusion of the inventory, the town will be provided with an action plan for a five-year urban forest maintenance schedule and annual budget projections.
