Westport Candidates To Face Off in Debate

WESTPORT, Conn. – Don't miss your chance to watch Westport's candidates for the Board of Finance and Planning and Zoning Commission take on the issues Monday night during a debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Westport together with the Westport Woman's Club and the Y's Women.

The debate, to be split in two sessions, will take place in the Town Hall auditorium from 7 to 9:15 p.m. The first session will spotlight the Board of Finance candidates: Democratic incumbent Ken Wirfel, Democrat Janis Collins, Republican incumbent Tom Lasersohn, Republican Michael Rea and Republican John Pincavage.

In the second session, attendees will hear from the Planning and Zoning Commission candidates: Republican incumbent and Save Westport Now candidate Catherine Walsh, Republican and Save Westport Now candidate Chip Stephens, Republican and Save Westport Now candidate Jack Whittle, Republican and Save Westport Now candidate Al Gratrix, and Democrat Jennifer Johnson.

During both sessions, the moderator will ask candidates questions submitted by audience members. Candidates will also have the opportunity to give closing statements.

If you can't attend the debate, it will be shown on Channel 79 (Channel 99 for AT&T subscribers) and viewers will have the opportunity to submit questions electronically via Westportdebates2011@gmail.com. The debate will also be rebroadcast at 8 p.m. Oct. 21, Oct. 22 and Oct. 23. It will be streamed on the town's website until Election Day.
