Westport Assessor's Office Reminds Veterans To File For Tax Exemption

WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Assessor’s Office reminds all veterans -- as well as widows and widowers of veterans -- to file their DD-214 in the Town Clerk’s Office before Oct. 1 for tax exemption.

The exemption applies to veterans who served during an active period of war for at least 90 days and received an honorable discharge, 

The exemption is $6,000 off a property assessment and will be reflected in the July 2015 tax bill.

The Town of Westport also offers a local option for an additional $20,000 based on income. Maximum income for a single veteran is $59,100, or $66,600 for a married veteran.
