WESTPORT, Conn. – The Westport Arts Center was recently awarded $20,088 in state funding for its arts programs from the state Department of Economic & Community Development.
Westport state Rep. Jonathan Steinberg announced the funding on Wednesday.
"Westport has a vibrant arts community," Steinberg, a Democrat who represents Westport’s 136th District, said in a statement. "I am so pleased the state is investing in our thriving arts scene."
The Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD) awarded the grants from its Connecticut Artist in Every Community program and Arts Leadership program.
These programs are funded by appropriations approved by the General Assembly and money from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Community Investment Act.
The Connecticut Artist in Every Community and Arts Leadership programs issue grants to promote teaching and learning through high-quality arts engagement and integration. They provide opportunities for residents of all ages, in every community, to interact with practicing artists.
