WESTON, Conn. Margaret Wirtenberg goes to Weston Town Hall to check out the agendas for upcoming meetings in town.
Wirtenberg, who has her own website about Weston, attends every Board of Selectmen meeting, every Building Committee meeting and other meetings depending on what's on the agenda. Overall, she says the agendas are clear and easy to understand.
"The reason why some people might not know is because it's like watching a soap opera if you miss something you might not know what's going on," said Wirtenberg. She said she would like more people to attend meetings and get involved in the town.
Weston is required to post agendas for meetings at least 24 hours in advance, and the agenda can be changed with a two-thirds vote of the present members. Any votes taken at the meeting must be posted within 48 hours and minutes must be posted within seven days. The agendas can be found at the town clerk's office on a bulletin board organized by board and commission. Many are also posted on the town's website but not all
"Everybody is pretty good about being on time," said Donna Anastasia, town clerk.
A calendar of upcoming meetings is posted next to the town clerk's desk in town hall. Recent minutes are located in a file cabinet underneath the bulletin board where agendas are posted. Anastasia said that four years ago the town used a grant to record minutes from the boards of selectmen, finance, the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Planning and Zoning and Conservation commissions. The minutes were scanned and are stored off site. A binder for each is located in the vault. Anastasia said the goal is to do this for all meeting minutes.
