WESTON, Conn. Weston Schools have postponed opening day to Tuesday, Sept. 6.
The following is a partial list of the town's progress up to Tuesday, Aug. 30:
Aug. 25-27 Storm prep and meetings.
Aug. 28 Police and town highway crews go out during the storm to get preliminary count on road closures and clear trees that are capable of being moved. Police and fire begin welfare checks on medically vulnerable residents. Initial assessment is more than 70 roads have treessome severalblocking and more than 50 with wires. First selectwoman declares emergency to seek additional resources. Connecticut Light & Power crews are deployed to start cutting wires on Route 57, Route 53 and main roadways.
Aug. 29 CL&P, town highway and subcontracted tree crews focus on cutting and clearing roads for emergency response purposes. Police and fire take list provided from the health district and begins welfare checks since most phones are down. Aug. Aug. 30 Town subcontracts additional tree crews to aid town highway department in clearing trees. Town emergency agencies continue to check on the elderly and respond to calls for service. Emergency Management facilitates food and water for shelter operations from FEMA.
