Weston Rep. Shaban Reminds Residents Of ID Needed For Domestic Travel

REDDING, Conn. -- State Rep. John Shaban is offering the following guidelines about about ID requirements and air travel based on some recent inquiries he has received.

There have been recent changes to ID guidelines for domestic flights. The short answer is that people don't need passports for these flights. Not yet, anyway.

The federal REAL ID Act has launched a national strategy to create secure driver's licenses and IDs. Airline passengers now need licenses or ID cards that comply with the REAL ID Act -- or have an additional accepted form of identification accepted by the Transportation Safety Administration.

Those additional IDs include a passport, global entry card, U.S. military ID, airline or airport-issued ID, or federally recognized tribal-issued photo ID. Check out the TSA's website for a full list.

Beginning Oct. 1, 2020, every domestic air traveler will need a REAL ID-compliant license or ID in order to board a domestic flight.

So whether you’re up for a license renewal or you need to get a Real ID Act-compliant license before 2018, before you go to the DMV, check out its website to make sure which forms of ID you'll need to bring with you.
