WESTON, Conn. -- Theo, Amelia and Sadie Rudolph avoided the hot sun and chilled out at the Weston Public Library on Thursday.
The library is serving as the town's cooling center through Friday. There is water available as well as games and puzzles, said Karen Tatarka, library director.
When not at the library, the Rudolph kids keep cool by eating ice cream and swimming at Aspetuck Valley Country Club.
The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat watch , an air quality alert and a hazardous weather outlook for Weston Thursday. The temperature hit about 88 degrees, with a heat index of 95. Thursday night is expected to cool down to about 73. Isolated showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. on Friday won't stop the heat. It's expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 95, and heat index values as high as 100.
Saturday there is a slight chance of showers after noon, but it is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 96. Sunday will cool down a little, with a high near 87.
