WESTON, Conn. Peri Ferdinand cooled off under a hose Friday at one of Weston's summer camps. She and the other girls used their yoga mats to create a slip and slide in the courtyard at Weston Intermediate School.
The high Friday in Weston was near 98 but felt like more than 100, according to the National Weather Service . Campers at the Inspirational and Experimental Dance, Art, and Yoga Camp, put on by Weston Youth Services , spent Friday morning practicing their breathing exercises before going into yoga poses.
"Breath is the most important part of yoga," said camp instructor Jean Dovo.
The campers also challenged their creativity on art projects with instructor Liz Ward and dance with Dovo.
"It's an opportunity for them to explore without pressure to produce something," said Ward. "It fosters independence with whatever ideas they have."
Campers at the Soaring Eagle Afternoon Camp , put on by Parks and Recreation, were found cooling off at Bisceglie Pond. Swimming was the favorite activity for campers Addison Berch and Lucy Nessbaum.
The heat is expected to continue this weekend with a high near 93 on Saturday and 86 on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Saturday, Saturday night and before noon on Sunday. Monday is expected to be cooler, with a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms after noon and a high near 81.
