UPDATE: Long Lots Road Reopened

UPDATED 6 p.m.: After being closed for roughly four hours, Long Lots Road has been reopened to traffic. Power at the intersection of Post Road East and Sherwood Island Connector has been restored. As of 6 p.m., 426 Westport homes/businesses were without power, according to CL&P.

UPDATE: The downed tree on Long Lots Road near Cedar Road and Post Road East has knocked out the power at the intersection of Sherwood Island Connector and Post Road East, affecting nearby buildings, including Walgreens, the 800 block shops and beyond. As of 5:30 p.m., 426 Westport homes and businesses were without power, according to CL&P.

Strong wind gusts and heavy rains were causing problems around Westport this afternoon. Long Lots Road between the Post Road and Cedar Road was closed shortly before 2 p.m. by a fallen tree and downed power lines 2 p.m.

Police advised motorists to access Long Lots Road east of Cedar Road by using Wakenor Road. There was no information on how long the road would be closed.

Westport police also reported that Easton Road at Coleytown Road and Greenbriar Lane was closed due to a snapped, hanging tree. And Compo Road South at Yankee Hill Road was closed because of downed wires and a fallen tree.

According to CL&P, 47 Westport homes were without power as of 3:30 p.m.

Heavy rain and occasional wind gusts as high as 55 mph were expected to continue throughout the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. A wind advisory was in effect until 3 p.m.

There was a 50 percent chance of rain through midnight, with winds between 11 and 20 mph.
