EASTON, Conn. Eastonite Noreen Forde was breathing a sigh of relief Thursday morning after a damaged utility pole at the end of her driveway was removed by crews from United Illuminating Co.
The pole on Westport Road was damaged during an Oct. 17 car accident that caused the pole to splinter in several places and lean. Forde said she was so worried about the pole falling that she no longer allowed her two young children to wait for the school bus at the foot of her driveway.
Forde said she called UI many times since the accident in an effort to get the problem addressed. A week after the accident, a crew dropped off a new pole, but it sat on the grass for nearly two months. Forde contacted The Daily Weston on Wednesday afternoon, hoping media pressure would help.
Fordes prayers were answer bright and early Thursday morning when crews came to replace the pole. I cant believe it," she said. "I really cant believe it.
I am happy that they are here and I am happy that the job is getting done. I just wish it didnt take so long, Forde said.
