Troxell Decides to Stay as Police Chief in Weston

WESTON, Conn. — Weston Police Chief John Troxell has decided to stay on board as the leader of the department, rescinding his decision to retire during an executive session meeting with the Police Commission.

In an email, Troxell said he has "full support of the Police Commission on my decision to stay. Also, 100 percent support from my family to fulfill my contract."

According to Beth Gralnick, a longtime member of the Police Commission, the decision was made during Troxell’s yearly performance evaluation, which was held behind closed doors late Tuesday. “In the course of discussion, this is what ended up happening,” Gralnick said.

“I am very pleased. I think he is an excellent police chief and he has the full support of the commission and the full support of the people of Weston,” she said.

Troxell suddenly announced his plan to retire in January through a letter to members of the Police Commission. He later told The Daily Weston his decision was based solely on “personal reasons.”

Troxell, who grew up in town, has been with the Weston Police Department for 31 years.

Gralnick said that because Troxell has decided to stay on as chief, his current contract is still valid and will expire in 2014.
