The crash was on northbound I-95 between exits 18 and 19. Two lanes of the roadway were closed while Fairfield and Westport firefighters extricated the driver from the cab and then for cleanup and an investigation. This caused long traffic delays of up to 10 miles for the afternoon and into the evening.

State Police spokeswoman Kelly Grant confirmed the driver was killed in the crash. He was identified by the Connecticut Post as Issiaga Toure, 43, of Providence, R.I.

The Post said his truck went off the roadway and went through a metal beam guardrail, hit a lamp pole and a metal highway sign before striking the bridge support for the Sasco Creek Road overpass.
