Three Westport Homes Burglarized in Two Days

WESTPORT, Conn. – Two more homes in the Greens Farms section of Westport were burglarized between midnight and 6 a.m. Monday, while the residents were inside sleeping, Capt. Sam Arciola announced Monday afternoon.

One of the burglaries occurred at a Greens Farms Road home, where laptop computers were stolen. Police said the suspect, or suspects, entered the home through an unlocked door.

The second incident was reported at a Devon Road home. The residence itself was not entered, but the suspect(s) accessed the garage through an unlocked foyer and entered several vehicles, Arciola said. Police are working to determine if anything from inside the vehicles was taken.

This is the second reported burglary on Devon Road. A car, laptop and cash were stolen from another Devon Road home between midnight and 6 a.m. Sunday. The suspect(s) were able to enter the home through an unlocked back door, police said.

“These types of burglaries have us very concerned because we have a person, or people, entering homes while people are inside, sleeping,” Arciola said. “A couple of the residences even had dogs inside the homes at the times of the burglaries, but they were not alerted.”

Arciola said there is reason to believe all three crimes may have been committed by the same person, or people, based on their similarities.

Westport detectives are working with the Fairfield Police Department, as similar types of burglaries were reported in Fairfield during the weekend, Arciola said.

“These crimes are committed by an opportunistic person, or people, looking for unlocked or easily accessible locations,” Arciola said. “We can’t stress enough the importance of making sure your homes and cars are locked.”

Anyone who thinks they have information about these incidents or saw something out of the ordinary, like a suspicious car or person, should call the Westport Police Department at 203-341-6000.
